Parks Parks: Wildlife Picks

Is that bird, is that a plane, or is it Parks: Wildlife finally landing at a game night near you!? Don't feed the wildlife though! Feed the gamers around your table. Let’s celebrate this expansion’s release by sharing some fun hiking-inspired recipes to pair with some good ole board games.

Puppy Chow

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chip
  • ½ cup peanut butter
  • 9 cups crispy rice cereal squares
  • 1½ cups confectioners sugars

Puppy Chow is sure to be a hit for every sweet tooth at the table. Check out the detailed steps for the recipe here. When serving, you can even pre-pack baggies for each player, just like you would for an outdoor hike. Don't forget the napkins with this one.

Miso-Oatmeal Cookies

  • 3 cups rolled oats
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup white miso
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs

Is that the mountains calling, or just your stomach? If you love baking, then try serving up some warm, straight-out-of-the-oven cookies Oatmeal cookies for your friends. If salty-sweetness is your thing, these are where it's at. Here's our go-to recipe.

Cayenne Pretzels

  • 1 cup canola oil
  • 1 envelope of ranch salad dressing mix
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 lb pretzel sticks

We're not saying these pretzels give Death Valley a run for its heat, but gosh—once you start snacking, you might not be able to stop. Go for classic pretzel sticks, or try subbing in some sourdough pieces broken into tiny pieces. Here's the recipe. Somebody pass the milk!

Hiker’s Tonic

  • 1 oz Elderflower Liqueur
  • 2 oz London Dry or American Gin
  • 3 oz of Tonic water (Fever Tree)
  • Garnish with a lime wedge

For the spirited bunch, here’s a fun beverage offering based on an Elderflower G&T.  Light, refreshing, and a delicious thirst quencher after a scorcher on the trails (or Cayenne Pretzels). This drink is best stirred. You can mix with London Dry Gin (Bombay Sapphire is a go-to) or Chemist American Gin (a Keymaster favorite).

If you end up enjoying some of these provisions with your crew, we would love to hear! Also, please share some of your favorite snack recipes for fellow hikers in the comments below!
